The Most Metal Man Alive, - @toehider - seeks and destroys one of my favourite 80's cartoon songs.
Before your new fangled youtube and digital, on demand, 'how come it's not playing yet' click and watch world of today - when I was a kid we had to actually be physically in front of a broadcast device to enjoy it. (Unless you could figure out how to program the VCR/were allowed to touch it/had any room on the end of your "young ones" tape that was too precious to watch too many times lest you wear it out..)
This meant lots of rushing home to be in front of a TV when your favourite show came on. The ABC (The Australian Broadcasting Commission, Government-run TV) often aired superbly quirky and non-mainstream cartoons in the afternoon. Unlike the commercial networks that were busy playing shows that were basically really long commercials for toys (He-Man, Hot Wheels, Transformers etc), the ABC played obscure Japanese epics that were soap-operas in space and made for must, MUST see viewing.
I wouldn't walk, I would RUN home to make 4:30pm so I could catch "Star Blazers", "G-Force", and this gem - "Ulysses 31".
No toys to sell, no weird He-Man coming on at the end together with Skeletor to talk about the moral of the show, just endless storylines stretched out over countless episodes with amazing battles scored to the most fabulous 80's metal music.
Here, the mostly METAL man in Australia, Toehider (www.toehider.com) plays the intro theme to a sadly short-lived, but incredible show - Ulysses 31.
This is from his Ep "Children of the Sun", a collection of under-appreciated cartoon themes from the 80s.
Toehider released 12 Eps in 12 months, but that's another story.
Until next time, rock on space monkeys - and make sure you've finished your homework otherwise no Dr.Who!
