When James Brown wrote the greatest political jingle of ALL TIME #ausvotes
Election TV ads are boring as anything. They point fingers and often don't have anything else to say except "Ha Ha, we didn't do that when we were in charge 15 yrs ago", and often serve to divide more than progress.
In the early 70's, James Brown was heavily involved in the Civil Rights movement - he released a bunch of songs that carried his political message "Funky President","Talking Loud and Sayin' Nothin'" and this epic - "Get up, get into it, get involved".
It is a furious call to action amongst his community, accompanied by some of the most brutal horns you'll ever hear from the JB's.
"I want you to hit me - don't miss me" just destroys me every time.
Could you imagine being at a political rally and then James and his band on and play this song? You'd be running down the streets enrolling others in the concept of democracy.
No disrespect to beardy hippies who strum Maton guitars and drone on about blah, blah blazzzzzzzz... - but this has got to be greatest political song ever written. Raw, powerful, and impossible not to dance to. The passion in his voice is unmissable.
I'm off to write a song called "Stop worrying about boat people, it's a political trick to make you feel protected".
