Song of the Day: "Editions of You, Roxy Music". Epic glam from even before I was born..

1973, so long ago that even I wasn't born, and Roxy Music release their most awesome album ever.

The amazing "For your pleasure".

It was given to my by my dear friend Damian Barbeler (with whom I played in my first band ever with, and who has gone on to become one of Australia's leading contemporary composers) after he heard it in a record store and thought I'd like it back in 1992.

How right he was!

This is the last Roxy Music album featuring the Space Alien who came to earth to play Synth, Brian Eno.

This particular track is an incredible example of where Roxy Music was doing at the time. Forceful, out there, comitted to style and just plain odd.

Synth nerds, dig on Eno letting loose in the keyboard solo!

I didn't post the live version of this, lest you get distracted by Eno's outlandish stage costumes and not actually hear what's going on. Instead, here's a look at what they wore at the time, from the album cover art:

Now enjoy this brutal onslaught, pre-punk and a million miles from Kiss and Sweet and other Glam-rock bands who put a pop-music spin on what was going on.

I heard the slinky sirens wail.. Woo!
